Live Animals: LAN CARGO Considerations
The following factors must be taken into account when transporting live animal by air:
- Correct segregation during packing, stowage, and transportation in consideration
of the animal’s characteristics:

Animals considered natural enemies may not be packed in the same container,
irrespective of the container’s divisions, and may not be placed across from each other on the
aircraft.
- Monkeys from different continents must be separated from each other during
carriage.
- Females in heat must be kept separate from adult males.
- Animals of different sizes and weights cannot be packed in the same container,
even if they belong to the same specie.
- Aggressive bird species must be kept separate, and in some cases must be packed
individually.

Conditions of animals: shorn or unshorn, pregnant, winter or summer coat, weaning
or suckling, etc.
- Type of container used depending on the characteristics of the animals.
- Type of aircraft used for transportion.
- Surface area of container versus crowding density.
- Container ventilation area, as well as conditions within the aircraft’s cargo
compartment.
- Climate conditions in transit areas and at destination: temperature, humidity,
etc.
- Other cargo within the compartment that could affect animals.
- The need for in-flight assistance.
- Availability of ground storage facilities in case of emergency.
LAN CARGO is not responsible for the death of animals due to natural causes, or
death animal caused by the conduct or acts of the live animal itself or the animals.
