Valuable Goods: Documentation
It is very important to carefully fill out the requested information on the Air Waybill.
To complete the Air Waybill information:
The
"Nature and Quantity of Goods" box on the air waybill must contain an exact
description of the goods (i.e. gold, industrial diamonds, etc.) and, when appropriate, the size or
volume of the pieces must be stated.
The
"Value Declared for Carriage" box must be completed as follows:
- The declared value amount must be
stated in the currency in which the Air Waybill has been issued as stated in the
official cargo tariff manuals.
- The Declared Value for Carriage in one Air Waybill
must not exceed US$ 100,000.00 or its equivalent.
- If the shipper does not declare a value,
the letters "NVD" (No Value Declared)
must be included in the "Value Declared for Carriage" box of the Air Waybill. The
words "No Value" or a series of XXX or any other sign are not acceptable.
- The "Value Declared for Carriage" box of the Air Waybill must not be left blank.
It must show a value declared by the shipper or the letters "NVD".
A
Security Tax of US$ 100.00
will be charged for each shipment of valuable goods. The said amount must be
entered in the "Total Other Charges Due to Carrier" and in the "Other Charges" box of the Air
Waybill preceded by the letters "SCC".
Consignments valued at more than US$ 20 per kilogram will be assessed valuation charges not less
than 0.75% of the shipper's declared value.
If the shipper does not declare value for carriage for any valuable cargo as stated above, this
cargo will be considered as valuable for the purpose of the transportation charges as stated in theIATA Cargo Manuals.
* The shipper must be aware that one of the purposes of Air Waybills is to serve
as a Customs declaration at origin or destination. Some shippers often use generic names for the
cargo. This act may be considered as a false declaration by Customs and it may result in the
confiscation or forfeiture of the entire shipment by the customs authorities. The shipper must
ensure that the information entered in the Air waybill is accurate.
