Dangerous Goods: Regulations
Regulations for handling of dangerous goods were established by the United Nations Group of
Experts and are detailed in
IATA's Dangerous Goods Regulations Manual as
well as the
ICAO's Technical Instructions Manual.
The said regulations establish
how to classify, pack, mark, label, and document all dangerous goods shipments.
Additionally, individuals directly or indirectly involved in the transportation of dangerous goods
(i.e., from the dispatcher to the flight captain) must fulfill certain training requirements to
ensure the safe transportation of dangerous goods. These courses encompass an analysis of the
general provisions/regulations, training on the requirements applicable to the function and
responsibility of the respective employee, as well as safety instruction, covering the hazards and
safe handling of dangerous goods, followed by emergency procedures.
As an IATA Active Member, LAN CARGO provides
training courses to its employees, as well as for personnel of freight forwarding
companies. Our team of instructors is highly qualified and duly trained to fully comply
with all the international regulations in force.
In addition to the Regulations on the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air, individual
states and flight operators can impose further regulations. Please access and read LAN CARGO's
additional
requirements.
